A war between countries is a conflict that affects many people, not just the citizens of the countries directly involved in it. People assist to their homes, the work of a lifetime, being destroyed; they are forced to flee the country due to the conflict and to go to countries where they often do not know how to speak their language, which makes the whole process of adaptation more difficult (getting a job becomes a nightmare as well as going to school is even more complicated than usual, for example). Other problems appear with the increasing prices of fuel, food, electricity, and gas, making people's daily lives more difficult. Because war is a violent conflict, it can take a toll on people's mental health, scarring them for life. The conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which started on February 24, 2022, is a prime example of this.
Since February 24, 2022, newspapers and social networks have been bombarded with news about the state and evolution of the war, the number of people who have died or who have left Ukraine, the decisions of the presidents of the NATO countries to help Ukraine, the impact the war is having daily on the world economy, etc. As a consequence of this same news, several people express their opinions on the comment boards of online newspapers, on social networks, forums, etc.
However, all this information about the war is scattered across different websites and social networks. If researchers (in the areas of Linguistics, History, Humanities, etc.) and curious people want to analyze all this data, their work will be very difficult. It is crucial to gather the information on a single platform.
The purpose of this work is the construction of an online corpus in the Portuguese language that will serve to display the information related to the conflict exposed in online newspapers and social media, reconstructing the 2022 conflict between Ukraine and Russia. It will also be possible, through readers' comments, to perceive the citizens' opinions about the various moments of the war.
